Where to Watch the Fleet Week Air Show with Kids (SF, Oct 9–11, 2026)

The Blue Angels are back over the Bay October 9–11, and you don't need a ticket to see them. Here are 12 family-friendly spots to watch the free Fleet Week air show. They run from front-row lawns at Marina Green to crowd-free picks on Treasure Island and in Sausalito, plus timing tips, a free Saturday rooftop event at Pier 39, and what to pack for the kids.

The Blue Angels are back over the Bay on October 9–11, and you don't need a ticket to see them. The show runs noon to 4 PM each day between the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, and general admission at Marina Green is free. Because the jets fly big loops over the whole northern waterfront, dozens of spots around the Bay get a great view. Here's every one worth knowing, sorted by how close you want to be to the action (and the crowds).

The quick facts

  • 📅 Air show: Friday–Sunday, October 9–11, 2026 · 12:00–4:00 PM daily
  • 📍 Show box: over the water between the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, centered on Marina Green
  • 💵 Cost: FREE general admission · paid VIP seating via the Air Show Network
  • ✈️ 2026 lineup: U.S. Navy Blue Angels (headliner), the United Airlines 777, the F-22 Raptor Demo Team, the Air Force Heritage Flight, the Marine Corps F-35B Demo Team, the Patriots Jet Team, Coast Guard aircraft, the Ace Maker T-33, T-6 Texan IIs, and flyovers from the C-130, C-5, E-6B Mercury, and U-2
  • 🕒 When the Blue Angels fly: they close out each day, typically starting around 3 PM for about 45 minutes. If your kids can only last an hour, aim for 2:30 PM.
  • 🧪 Free preview: the Blue Angels typically fly practice runs over the city on the Thursday before the show (October 8). Smaller crowds, same jets.
  • 🚢 Bonus Friday event: the Parade of Ships sails under the Golden Gate Bridge Friday morning (listed at 10:30 AM–noon on one page and 11 AM–noon on another), right before the air show starts. Friday is the best day to do both.

The United 777 is worth waiting for, too. It's the only commercial airliner in the country that flies a fully choreographed air show routine, and kids who fly United will lose their minds.

Front row: the SF waterfront

These are the closest views you'll get. They're also where the million-plus crowd goes, so arrive by 10 or 11 AM on Saturday and Sunday to claim grass.

1. ✈️ Marina Green — the center of it all

This is ground zero. The show is centered here, the announcers narrate every act over the speakers, and the jets pass directly overhead. It's also the loudest and most packed spot on the list. Great for kids 6+ who want the full experience; tough for toddlers and strollers. Free general admission, or with paid VIP chalets if you want a guaranteed seat and a bathroom that isn't a porta-potty. There are usually different army trucks set up here that kids can climb into and check out for free!

📍 Marina Blvd & Fillmore St, San Francisco

👶 Best for: big kids, aviation-obsessed kids, families who want the commentary

2. 🌉 Crissy Field — room to spread out

Just west of Marina Green, with the Golden Gate Bridge right behind the jets. The big open lawn and the beach give kids room to run between acts, which matters over a four-hour show. The far west end near the bridge is a bit less crowded and still has a clear view of the show box.

📍 Crissy Field, Presidio of San Francisco

👶 Best for: families with little kids who need space, picnickers

3. 🏛️ Fort Mason & the Great Meadow — the local favorite

The Great Meadow is a sloped lawn above the water, so you're looking over people's heads instead of at their backs. The ends of the Fort Mason piers are another widely recommended vantage point, right on the edge of the show area.

📍 Great Meadow, Fort Mason, Marina Blvd & Laguna St, San Francisco

👶 Best for: picnic blanket families, anyone who wants a slight elevation

4. 🍫 Aquatic Park & Ghirardelli Square — chocolate included

The curved beach and the Municipal Pier at Aquatic Park face straight into the show box. Walk up to Ghirardelli Square for ice cream between acts. On Saturday at noon, the 191st Army Jazz Ensemble plays a free Fleet Week concert at Ghirardelli, so you can stack both.

📍 Aquatic Park, Beach St & Hyde St, San Francisco

👶 Best for: families who want food and bathrooms close by

5. 🦭 Pier 39 & Fisherman's Wharf — the all-day combo

You're farther east, so the jets are a bit more distant, but they still roar right over. The upside: this is where Fleet Fest is happening (Saturday 10 AM–9 PM, Sunday 10 AM–5 PM at the SkyStar Wheel and Pier 27), plus the sea lions, the carousel, and free military band concerts all weekend. Heads-up for Sunday: the Italian Heritage Parade runs through the Wharf around 12:30 PM, so expect extra crowds.

🎉 Saturday pick for families: on Saturday, October 10, Oogubi is hosting a free family fun zone event on the Anchors Landing rooftop airshow watch party. It's an elevated spot to watch the air show, with built-in fun to keep kids busy between acts.

📍 Pier 39, Beach St & The Embarcadero, San Francisco

👶 Best for: turning the air show into a full-day outing

Up high or off the beaten path

The Blue Angels loop wide over the city, so a hill can give you a bigger picture than the waterfront. You trade some closeness for less chaos.

6. 🌿 Presidio Tunnel Tops — playground with a view

The lawns and bluffs here look out over Crissy Field toward the bay, and the Outpost nature play area keeps little kids busy during the slower acts. On Friday at noon, the 191st Army Woodwind Quintet plays a free Fleet Week concert right here.

📍 Presidio Tunnel Tops, 210 Lincoln Blvd, San Francisco

👶 Best for: toddlers and preschoolers, Friday visitors

7. 🏙️ Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill & Coit Tower — rooftop feel, no rooftop

The streets and parks on the north side of these hills look straight down onto the bay. The jets often scream past at eye level. Parking up here is close to impossible that weekend, so take transit and plan for a steep walk with the stroller.

📍 Around Coit Tower (Telegraph Hill) and the top of Russian Hill, San Francisco

👶 Best for: older kids who can handle the climb

8. 🏔️ Twin Peaks — the big-picture view

You're far from the show box, but the Blue Angels' wide turns bring them across the whole city, and you'll see them against the skyline. Expect wind and fog risk. Go here if you want a quieter experience and don't mind the jets looking smaller.

📍 Twin Peaks Blvd, San Francisco

👶 Best for: families who'd rather skip the crowds entirely

9. 🏝️ Treasure Island — the crowd-free sleeper pick

Treasure Island is expected to be less crowded than the SF waterfront, with a skyline-and-bridge backdrop and room to spread out. Construction means a few detours on the island, so allow extra time. The Off the Grid food trucks at Cityside Park are running on Saturday, October 10, which makes this an easy picnic-and-jets day.

📍 Treasure Island, San Francisco (via the Bay Bridge or the Treasure Island ferry)

👶 Best for: families who want space, food trucks, and an easy exit

10.🛝Moscone Recreation Center — the toddler-friendly backup

We've watched from Moscone with our kids, and it's the move if you have little ones. It's a few blocks south of Marina Green, close enough that the jets roar right overhead during their turns, and the Blue Angels' big loops over the Marina are easy to follow. You get a real playground, open fields, and restrooms, with a fraction of the waterfront crowd. Chestnut Street is right there for snacks and lunch. The trade-off: there's no bay view, so you'll miss the low passes over the water and the announcer's commentary.

📍 Moscone Recreation Center, Chestnut St & Laguna St, San Francisco

👶 Best for: toddlers and preschoolers, families who need a playground and real bathrooms

Across the Bay: the Marin side

Watching from the north side means the jets fly with San Francisco as the backdrop, and you skip the city traffic entirely. The trade-off is distance: the planes will look smaller than they do from Marina Green.

10. ⛴️ Sausalito waterfront — make the ferry part of the day

The bayfront parks and promenade in Sausalito look back across the water toward the show area and the city skyline. Arriving by ferry from SF turns the trip itself into an adventure for kids. Ferries fill up fast on air show weekends, so check schedules and buy tickets ahead.

📍 Gabrielson Park and the downtown Sausalito waterfront, Bridgeway, Sausalito

👶 Best for: families who want a calmer, café-and-ferry kind of day

11. 🥾 Angel Island — the adventurous pick

The island sits right at the eastern edge of the show area, with sweeping views back toward the Golden Gate. It's ferry-only access, and you'll need to walk a bit to get a good vantage point, so pack snacks and water. Check ferry times carefully: missing the last boat back with tired kids is not a fun ending.

📍 Angel Island State Park (ferries from Tiburon and San Francisco)

👶 Best for: older kids and families who like a hike with their show

12. 🌁 Marin Headlands — bridge-and-jets drama

The overlooks above the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge frame the jets against the bridge and the city. It's a stunning photo spot, but parking at the overlooks is extremely limited, roads can back up for hours, and it gets windy. Only worth it if you go early and are ready to bail.

📍 Conzelman Road overlooks, Marin Headlands

👶 Best for: photo-focused families with older kids and patience

Tips for doing the air show with kids

  • Ear protection is non-negotiable. The jets are genuinely loud, especially the Blue Angels and the F-22. Pack kid-sized earmuffs, and noise-cancelling headphones for babies.
  • Skip driving if you can. Parking near the Marina is brutal all weekend. Caltrain, BART, Muni, and the ferries are all easier; plan your route on 511.org and check the official parking and transportation pages.
  • Pick your window. Four hours is a lot for small kids. Arrive around 2 PM, stake out a spot, and stay for the Blue Angels finale, typically around 3 PM.
  • Try Friday or Thursday. Friday crowds are lighter than the weekend, and Thursday practice flights are free with almost no crowds at all.
  • Pack for three climates. Sunny, windy, and foggy can all happen in one afternoon on the waterfront. Layers, hats, sunscreen, and a blanket.
  • Bring binoculars and snacks. Binoculars help kids track the jets at farther-out spots, and food lines get long.
  • Pick a meeting spot. With crowds this size, set a landmark with older kids in case you get separated, and write your phone number on little kids' arms.
