Lake Tahoe


Tahoe Meadows (Free snow play, near Incline Village)

What it is: A free, informal snow-play hill where families bring their own sleds/saucers/tubes and slide all day—no tickets, no set hours.

Where it is: Along Mount Rose Highway (NV-431) about 6.5 miles above Incline Village, near the Tahoe Meadows Trailhead 

Season dates: Winter snow season—this high-elevation area typically has snow from late October into mid-June in an average year (best family snow-play months are usually Dec–March, snow/weather depending).


TubeTahoe (Snow tubing in South Lake Tahoe)

What it is: A family-friendly snow tubing park with machine-groomed tubing lanes (plus a smaller kids’ hill) designed for easy, “show up and have fun” winter play.

Where it is: 3021 US Highway 50, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 (in the Meyers area, right off Hwy 50).

Season dates: Weather permitting, late November or early December through March 31.


What it is: A family-friendly ski resort on Tahoe’s North Shore (skiing + riding).

Hansen’s Resort (snow tubing)

What it is: A classic, family-friendly tubing hill in South Lake Tahoe.

Where it is: 1360 Ski Run Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150.

Dates of the season: Typically mid-December → mid/late March (snow dependent).


Granlibakken Tahoe (sled hill + beginner ski hill)

What it is: A smaller, super family-friendly spot for sledding + beginner skiing/snowboarding.

Where it is: 725 Granlibakken Rd, Tahoe City, CA 96145.

Dates of the season: Projected opening: Nov 27, 2025 → runs through winter (snow dependent; check their booking calendar for the last day).


Tahoe City Winter Sports Park (sledding, snowshoeing, skiing)

What it is: A community winter park with sledding + XC/snowshoe options (and more).

Where it is: 251 N. Lake Blvd, Tahoe City, CA 96145.

Dates of the season: Open seasonally November → March (weather dependent).


What it is: A classic Sierra ski-and-snowboard mountain known for an “old school, no frills, all fun” vibe—lots of big-mountain terrain, plus ski/ride lessons, rentals, and a Cross Country Center (snowshoe + Nordic).

Where it is: 1501 Kirkwood Meadows Dr, Kirkwood, CA 95646.

Dates of the season:Dec 5, 2025 to April 19 (weather dependent)


Adventure Mountain (snow tubing + snow play )

What it is: Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe is a family-friendly snow tubing + snow play spot (machine-groomed lanes) located at the top of Echo Summit on Hwy 50, about 10 minutes west of South Lake Tahoe. It’s very “show up and play” — tubing is the main attraction (they provide the tubes; sledding isn’t allowed).

Dates of the season: open December–April (conditions dependent).



Tahoe SNO-Parks (bring your own sleds + buy a Sno-Park permit)

*For any California SNO-park you need a day permit which you can buy online and print or tons of retailers and ski resorts sell them $15 for 1 day or $40 for the entire season. 


Taylor Creek Sno-Park

What it is: A Sno-Park for snow play + winter recreation near South Lake Tahoe.

Where it is: Along Hwy 89 just north of Camp Richardson Rd (often mapped as 1290 Cathedral Rd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150).

Dates of the season: Nov 1 → May 30 (permit season; conditions vary).


Echo Lake Sno-Park

What it is: A Sno-Park for snow play + winter recreation (no snowmobiles).

Where it is: North side of Hwy 50 at Echo Lake Rd (near Echo Summit).

Dates of the season: Nov 1 → May 30 (permit season; conditions vary).


Donner Summit Sno-Park

What it is: A Sno-Park base for winter recreation near Donner Summit (note: “not designed for sledding,” per the park info).

Where it is: South side of I-80 at the Castle Peak exit (often mapped as 19455 Bunny Hill Dr, Soda Springs, CA 95728).

Dates of the season: Nov 1 → May 30 (permit season; conditions vary).

Truckee & other areas of Tahoe


Northstar California (Tubing + resort snow day)

Date: January 2026 (winter season; weather permitting)

What it is: A full ski-resort day with a dedicated tubing hill option—great if you want “Tahoe snow” without committing to skiing all day.

Soda Springs ( “Tube Town” + snow play)

Date: January 2026 (winter season; weather permitting)

What it is: Family-friendly resort with tubing and snow-play style activities geared toward kids.

What it is: A Lake Tahoe-area ski & snowboard resort right off I-80, known for night skiing, terrain parks, and Woodward Tahoe action-sports training.

Dates of the season: Nov 28, 2025 – Apr 19, 2026 (closing is projected and weather-dependent). 


Tahoe Donner Snowplay (sledding-style snow play area)

Date: January 2026 (winter season; weather permitting)

What it is: A designated snowplay area for families (great “first snow” vibe).

Address: 12790 Northwoods Blvd, Truckee, CA 96161 


What it is: Sugar Bowl Resort is an independently owned ski + snowboard resort on Donner Summit (easy I-80 access) with a classic Tahoe feel and lots of family-friendly options—including kid lessons (ages 4–12) and Sugar Rush Tubing with multiple lanes plus a snow play area for little ones.

Address: 629 Sugar Bowl Rd, Norden, CA 95724 

Dates of the season:12/6/25 to  TBA (weather-dependent)


What it is: Donner Ski Ranch is a family-owned, independent ski resort on Donner Summit (easy I-80 access) with downhill skiing/snowboarding plus an on-site tubing hill—a classic, low-key Tahoe option that’s great for families.

Address: 19320 Donner Pass Rd, Norden, CA 95724 

Dates of the season: January 12, 2026 til usually sometime in May (weather dependent).




Arnold / Bear Valley / Highway 4 (Calaveras County area)


Bear Valley Mountain Resort (family-friendly ski + snowboard resort)

What it is:Bear Valley Mountain Resort is a Sierra ski + snowboard resort off Highway 4 with that “big mountain, small-town vibes” feel. It's great for families who want a full winter day without the mega-resort overwhelm.

Address:2280 State Route 207, Bear Valley, CA 95223

Dates of the season:opening weekend November 28–30, 2025 to April 19, 2026 (weather-dependent and subject to change).


Bear Valley Adventure Company (skiing, snowshoeing & tubing)

What it is: A go-to spot near Arnold for tubing/sledding plus other winter activities.

Address: 1 Bear Valley Rd, Bear Valley, CA 95223 

Dates of the season: January 2026 (winter season; weather permitting)


Spicer SNO-Park -snow play day (bring your own sleds, parking permit required)

What it is: A designated Sno-Park for snow play/sledding—usually a solid option for a lower-cost snow day.

Address: South side of Highway 4 at Spicer Road (near Arnold/Bear Valley area) 

Dates of the season: January 2026 (SNO-Park permit season runs Nov 1–May 30)


What it is: A California State Park famous for giant sequoias, with winter hiking and seasonal guided snowshoe hikes (when there’s enough snow).

Where it is (address): 1170 E. Highway 4, Arnold, CA 95223 

Dates of the season:The road to the South Grove typically closes for the season around mid-Nov and reopens late April.


What it is: A California SNO-Park (Stanislaus National Forest) used for winter recreation like snow play and sledding.

Where it is : State Route 207 (Mt. Reba Rd), 0.2 miles north of Hwy 4 (often listed as 7N93, Arnold, CA 95223).

Dates of the season: Nov 1 – May 30 (SNO-Park permit season; conditions vary).


What it is: A California SNO-Park at the Hwy 4 winter closure gate with winter activities like snow play (and other snow recreation depending on conditions).

Where it is (address): Highway 4 winter closure gate (CA-4) near Lake Alpine (GPS listed on the site).

Dates of the season: Nov 1 – May 30 (SNO-Park permit season; conditions vary).

Pinecrest/ Tuolumne County (Hwy 108)


Leland Snowplay (Strawberry CA) — snow tubing only

What it is: A lift-served snow tubing park with groomed tubing lanes (tubes included with tickets).

Where it is (address): 34033 Leland Meadow Rd, Pinecrest, CA 95364 (near Strawberry on Hwy 108).

Dates of the season: 2025–26 opening day: Dec 28, 2025 → runs through April 2026 (tentative / snow-dependent).


Dodge Ridge Ski Resort (Pinecrest) — tubing + skiing/snowboarding

What it is: A ski resort offering skiing, snowboarding, plus Tubing + Snow Play sessions.

Where it is (address): 1 Dodge Ridge Rd, Pinecrest, CA 95364.

Dates of the season: Opens Dec 27, 2025 → projected closing Apr 12, 2026 (weather-dependent).


Highway 108 SNO-Park (near Strawberry, CA)

What it is: A California Sno-Park at the Hwy 108 winter closure gate—used for winter recreation (including snow play) and access to Hwy 108 winter routes.

Where it is (address): At the winter closure gate on Hwy 108, east of Strawberry (no street address). GPS: 38°16’1.47”N, 119°59’30.31”W.

Dates of the season: Nov 1 – May 30 (Sno-Park permit season; access depends on snow/road conditions).

Yosemite/ Badger Pass


Badger Pass Ski Area (Yosemite National Park)

What it is: Yosemite’s historic ski & snowboard area—a family-friendly mountain with downhill skiing/snowboarding (lessons + rentals), plus access to winter trails for snow play and Nordic-style outings.

Where it is (address): 7082 Glacier Point Rd, Yosemite National Park, CA 95389 (on Glacier Point Road).

Dates of the season: Mid-January to late-March, conditions permitting (operating dates vary because it relies on natural snow). **Expected to open January 16. Follow Badger Pass Ski on Facebook for most up to date information.
