DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon: The Musical, Jr. in San Mateo — Bay Area family event

DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon: The Musical, Jr.

The Bay Area premiere of DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon: The Musical, Jr. will take the stage October 23 through November 1, presented by Pied Piper Players (PPP) at the Bayside Performing Arts Center in San Mateo. The production comes as PPP celebrates its 25th anniversary serving Bay Area children and families through theater. Founded in 2001, the nonprofit family theater organization was created to give young people opportunities to participate in both the performing and technical arts. What began with large-scale MainStage musicals has grown into a year-round theater community offering productions, acting and musical theater classes, camps, free after-school drama programs, scholarships and ticket-gifting programs. This Fall’s Bay Area premiere is based on the beloved DreamWorks story, How to Train Your Dragon: The Musical, Jr. and follows Hiccup, a young Viking who doesn't quite fit into the traditions of his community. When he unexpectedly befriends a dragon named Toothless, he begins to question everything he has been taught about dragons — and discovers the courage to see the world differently. Filled with music, humor and adventure, the story explores friendship, courage, being yourself and learning to understand those who appear different from us. Performances: Friday, October 23 — 7 p.m. Saturday, October 24 — 7 p.m. Sunday, October 25 — 2 p.m. Friday, October 30 — 7 p.m. Saturday, October 31 — 2 p.m. Sunday, November 1 — 2 p.m.
